Palika Bazaar is an underground market, which is located between the inner and outer circle of Connaught Place, New Delhi, India. The palika bazaar market hosts around 390 shops offering a varied range of products; though, the market is dominated by clothing and electronic items. Palika Bazaar was established in the late 1970s, however, since the 1980s it has been witnessing a decline in number of customers, in part because of the opening of many new, modern shopping malls all across Delhi.
Palika Bazaar is believed to have around 15,000 people within its confines at any given point of time and it also attracts many foreign tourists. The
market is famous as a place with a very low level of prices, however, at times you may need to do high bargaining. Palika Bazaar does, however, also have a reputation for a wide availability of illegal products such as stolen goods, pornography, fake designer products and pirated movies, software and CDs. At many times police have conducted raids to recover stolen or pirated merchandise, however, this has failed to curb this illegal activity in the market.
